—Uncanny Valley Intro— I just got back from Uncanny Valley I’m spending lots of time there these days All my friends live in Uncanny Valley Just waiting for me by the gateways I left my heart in Uncanny Valley I’m not quite sure what I should do I keep coming back to Uncanny Valley Whenever I am feeling blue
2.
—Button Eyes— I was dreaming I was in another mirror maze Puppets, dolls, and mannequins, as usual, would gaze I walked into another room, and there upon the floor Was Button Eyes just staring through me, opening a door He reached into my memories that I could not recall He added things I'm not quite sure had happened there at all All the toys that I once had, laid out for me to see I can't for certain know that they are from my memory See, puppet lips tell secrets to you that you shouldn't know Button Eyes gets off on making sure you watch the show Button Eyes…Puppet lips? Button Eyes…Puppet lips? You'll never know, but here comes the puppet show! Who's that peeping through the blinds? It's puppet lips What year was it my timeline changed, and things like this were rearranged? Who's that playing with my mind? It's puppet lips That instant recall that you get when you know that time’s been reset You never know when you’ll find dream stuff of another kind in puppet lips Button Eyes…Puppet lips? Sneaking sticky sour somethings in your ear, my dear Don’t fear—you needn’t know the meaning of my scheming Steering where you’re dreaming Beaming subtle notions All the motions of the branches blowing Are components in the potion Which for you, my rose, I’ve chosen Love is frozen, you and I will be forever tethered Frosted hearts as tough as leather of the pterodactyl Digging black holes in the flimsy fabric Of the minds of simple sheep We’ll reap the harvest of the larvae In the beds of babes asleep Months have passed, and here I thought, "It's just a funhouse dream" But I guess this time it was much more than it would seem He’s nothing like my veggie pals, who like to dance and sing He brought along his shadow friends—they’ve been here since last spring He gazed in my direction, and I felt an eerie spark Then all at once we were there, playing marbles in the dark He whispered something to me softly that no one should hear And all that I was left with was a ringing in my ear See, Button Eyes knows all too well what things are in my head Please give me time to think about the things that he has said Who's that peeping through the blinds? It's puppet lips And just like that, you catch that spark that leaves you wandering in the dark Who's that playing with my mind? It's puppet lips Button Eyes, Button Eyes, puppet lips, puppet lips You never know when you’ll find dream stuff of another kind in puppet lips You'll never know, but here comes the puppet show!

—Age of Devonian— Lost in the age of Devonian Briny creatures is all there is to see What a dreadful time it is to be 20,000 leagues under the sea Don’t look out the window (It’s briny out there) Don’t look or you’ll see (No, no, no) A crysalopus, so briny! Lost in the age of Devonian Briny creatures is all there is to see What a dreadful time it is to be 20,000 leagues under the sea Darkest depth waters, bubbly sea Seaweed and weird caves I gotta get out of the briny! (Fish dominate; fish control) Devonian! (Fish dominate; fish control) Devonian! (Fish dominate; fish control) No, it’s not Silurian! (Fish dominate; fish control) No, no, Devonian!

—The Monosaccharide Inducer— The doctor’s got a new invention The doctor’s got a brand new toy He's happy, happy, happy, happy, happy Just like a little boy It’s a zapping laser light show It’s a transforming machine And it makes the floating goldthwaits Turn into monosaccharine No sugar supply has been enough on Toxichlor We can’t help it if we need more caffeine Sugar, caffeine, sugar, caffeine, sugar, caffeine Sugar, caffeine, sugar, caffeine, sugar, caffeine The doctor’s got a new invention The doctor’s got a brand new toy He's happy, happy, happy, happy, happy Just like a little boy Oh, it’s also quite an engine It runs our VLORPO-1 When you pour in a ton of sugar VLORPO’s guaranteed to run No sugar supply has been enough on Toxichlor We can’t help it if we need more caffeine Sugar, caffeine, sugar, caffeine, sugar, caffeine Sugar, caffeine, sugar, caffeine, sugar, caffeine

—Mad Hatter’s Ball— Twinkle, twinkle little bat! How I wonder what you’re at! Up above the world so high Like a tea tray in the sky A lovely party it will be A lovely sight it is to see Five or ten chairs nailed to the wall Five or ten chairs about ten feet tall This kind of party, what do you call? Nonetheless but the Mad Hatter’s Ball They’re not the same thing a bit! You might just as well say that “I see what I eat” Is the same thing as “I eat what I see” It’s always tea time! There'll be, of course, plenty of tea And ripe sugar cubes picked right from the tree Bring your forks, ‘cause we’ll have to pluck At gophers and chipmunks that run quite amuck If they run too far, then we’ll have to see That they check in the kitchen to skin off their knee Why should it? Does your watch tell you what year it is? Of course you don’t! I dare say you never even spoke to time! It’s always tea time! I haven’t the slightest idea A lovely party it will be A lovely sight it is to see Five or ten chairs nailed to a wall Five or ten chairs about ten feet tall This kind of party, what do you call? Nonetheless but the Mad Hatter’s Ball Have you guessed the riddle yet? Your hair wants cutting

—Bright Light City— There’s a road that leads to that bright light city Miles and miles to get to that bright light city Time will pass once you get to that bright light city Bright light city—shining like a digital clock in the sky My, you’re pretty—you’re an architect’s dream and it’s no lie You’re a metropolitan paradise Your aerodynamics are quite precise You’re a metropolitan movie star Your lights and cars can never go too far Neon signs will light your way And you’ll never see the day No, not in that bright light city There are cars in all of the bright light city Monorails run straight through that bright light city You can go and escape in that bright light city Bright light city—your halogen holograms light the streets I give you all my pity—your neon bed is gonna lose its sheets You’re a metropolitan paradise Your aerodynamics are quite precise You’re a metropolitan movie star Your lights and cars can never go too far It’s a metropolis And you’ll never hit and miss Forget in that bright light city Time is froze inside of the bright light city No one knows inside of the bright light city Life remains the same in the bright light city You must take the right route Just remember to stay devout Find your way to that bright light city

Crawlspace 02:54
—Crawlspace— Crawlspace Crawlspace, crawlspace, crawlspace Crawlspace, crawlspace, crawlspace No, you won’t be heard at all Compared to footsteps down the hall In the crawlspace When it’s breathing in the night In the spectrum of your sight In the crawlspace In the pale green cast of the digital clock Why do your thoughts seem less coherent? You’re drawn to the prey that your instincts stalk And now your goals have come apparent Crawlspace Waking, dreaming, sleeping, breathing Waking, dreaming, sleeping, breathing Hello? Is anyone there? I was just standing there and I was looking Crawlspace, crawlspace, crawlspace Crawlspace, crawlspace, crawlspace The walls are made of steel But you wonder, can it feel you In the crawlspace? Like a mouse inside a maze Fighting off a midnight craze Deep in the crawlspace As you creep above the world below you It all seems somewhat—somewhat surreal For you know what it is you must do How could they know how you feel In the crawlspace? Toss and turn in another night terror Toss and turn in another night terror Hello?

—The Marionettes— This is the story of the time I was lucky enough to see the marionettes in their grand formation… It’s a curio for me It’s a curio to see When the marionettes take stance Yes, a curio indeed If you’d seen it, you’d agreed When they start their menacing dance 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 marionettes in a row 7, 8, 9, 10 in a line, dancing to and fro It was movement so elite So I found myself a seat To enjoy the grand-scale show The marionettes are beautiful With old-world style and grace The marionettes are beautiful With the detailed, painted face My love goes out to the marionettes Though a curio for me to see The death-march of the marionettes All in grand choreography Though they may cause one alarm They won’t do me any harm For they know to read my soul They are burning with a rage For they’ve been locked in a cage And they’re dying to take their toll 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 marionettes in a row 7, 8, 9, 10 in a line, dancing to and fro It was movement so elite So I thought I’d be discreet And I asked a sweet Pierrot He said: Pray now, if you get a glance Of their animated dance Consider yourself in grace For only privileged few Including me and you Have ever come face to face! Then he took me in his arms In his parasol of charms And I think I fell in love But I cannot say for sure Tricks are played of old amour By the gleaming moon up above

Charles 02:09
—Charles— Charles, Charles In an anatomical position His chest protrudes, his presence concludes That he’s quite an exhibition He stands in a corner, distal and repressed But on his own will, for it’s for his best His silence is golden, his silence intrudes But his reason for silence is one that eludes Charles, Charles Is educated in charts and text He knows them well, like living Hell For his head is to them next He hasn’t eyes, he hasn’t ears nor lips He lost his heart, his brain, his life, and his fingertips As of now I’m sure you’re wondering what poor Charley be He is the very frame of man, beyond a mystery
11.
—Waltzing with Charley— Waltzing with Charley, dancing with Charles A slender white figure moves down distant halls Can you keep up with Charles? Can you dance with the dead? He may not be living, but don’t be misled His twirling and whirling is not to be matched His secret’s kept well, locked up and latched Charley’s a gentleman, sweet as can be You’ll see us two dancing, Charley and me What a night that it will be What a night for Charley and me It’s a shame no one will see For they’ll all think I’m crazy That it’s all in my head For it’s plain as can be—Charley is dead Waltzing with Charley, dancing with Charles In a laboratory, in clinical walls Would you like to see Charles? Watch him dance through the night In a medical room in dim fluorescent lights Past the books, and the texts, and the charts, and the clock It should be no surprise—it should come as no shock Charley’s a scholar, and graceful is he You’ll see us two dancing, Charley and me What a night that it will be What a night for Charley and me It’s a shame no one will see For they’ll all think I’m crazy That it’s all in my head For it’s plain as can be—Charley is dead

—Grandpa Susie— Oh no, the scaly slime! I am running out of time! Oh, what can you do? My hands are covered in ocean goo! Dead fish, dead fish, dead fish, dead fish What is your single wish? Dead fish, dead fish, dead fish, dead fish That is your single wish (That is my single wish) Cod liver oil is what I like! I often go to get some on my three wheeled bike Oh fish, I love ‘em so very much! They’re a treat to my eyes, and a gift to my touch! I just don’t understand, how all throughout the land Fish is not thought of as—as a gift to man Oh, what would you do, if I gave fish to you? Well, I’d stick to you like glue! Oh no, the scaly slime! I am running out of time! Oh, what can you do? My hands are covered with ocean goo! Dead fish, dead fish, dead fish, dead fish What is your single wish? Dead fish, dead fish, dead fish, dead fish That is your single wish (That is my single wish) Well, I know a little dwarf Who lives down by the wharf He’ll give me all the fish I want If I just promise not to taunt About his little size Or his wandering beady eyes Oh please, oh please, oh please! I’m down upon my knees! Oh give me fish, oh give me fish! Oh please, please place it in my dish! Okay, here you are But now I need your car I—I don’t got a car… All I got’s a three wheeled bike, and I— I need that to get cod liver oil! What—what am I going to do? Do you have a pogo stick? Yeah! Well, I’ll take that Okay! Dead fish, dead fish, dead fish, dead fish What is your single wish? Dead fish, dead fish, dead fish, dead fish That is your single wish (That is my single wish) Dead fish, dead fish, dead fish, dead fish What is your single wish? Dead fish, dead fish, dead fish, dead fish That is your single wish (That is my single wish) I got bit by a sea cucumber I got bit by a sea cucumber I got bit by a sea cucumber Oh, what a pickle! Oh, what a pickle!

—Pinnipedia Pounce— Pinnipedia, Pinnipedia Pounce! Pinnipedia, Pinnipedia Pounce! What is your porpoise, I say? I say it’s to pounce the night away What do you expect to do? To Pinnipedia Pounce with you Acting like a porpoise Looking like a frog Moving like a porpoise Down at the local bog Pinnipedia, Pinnipedia Pounce! Pinnipedia, Pinnipedia Pounce! Blankets, shirts, and sweaters too They’re all doing the dance that’s new So, Pinnipedia, Pinnipedia Pounce!

—Bermuda Triangle— Just let your cares go, and swim from the flow Of everyday taxing real life Just let the winds blow, and the undertow Sweep you from all of your strife For the forces of nature are ready to take you To a place where the sun always shines So get a sailboat and navigate The latitude, longitude lines Bermuda Triangle, Bermuda Triangle Do you believe in the theory of continental drift? Bermuda Triangle, Bermuda Triangle We will send you right through the next time rift Just let your cares go, and swim from the flow Of everyday taxing real life Just let the winds blow, and the undertow Sweep you from all of your strife Just listen to what I am saying If you’re willing to part with your pain Just listen to what I am saying You’ve nothing but something to gain Bermuda Triangle, Bermuda Triangle Do you believe in the theory of continental drift? Bermuda Triangle, Bermuda Triangle We will send you right through the next time rift Bermuda Triangle, Bermuda Triangle It’s the sentimental, never-ending tropical dream Bermuda Triangle, Bermuda Triangle We will redesign reality’s scheme

Monads 03:03
—Monads— There are monads in the air There are monads in your hair Nothing you can do or say Because they're gonna be there anyway If you try to kill yourself Thinking you will become a ghost You'll still be monads So it’s not a good idea in the most You'll never escape monads When you are a little babe You are made out of monads When you're just a little child You are made out of monads When you are all grown up You are made out of monads When you are old and grey You are made out of monads When you're rotting in your grave You are made out of monads Monads are floating in the air Monads are simply everywhere Nothing you can do or say Because they're gonna be there anyway If you try to kill yourself Thinking you will become a ghost You'll still be monads So it’s not a good idea in the most So you go through another day With monads getting in your way There's nothing you can do or say Because they'll be there anyway They are you and you are them You are them and they are you You are a monad You are many monads Everything you see is made of monads You'll never escape monads

—20th Century Ghost— Once upon a time, there was a place that was my own I understood the way things worked, and the things that I was shown Don’t get me wrong, I was always looking in from the outside At least it all made sense to me, and I knew where I could hide We had pleasant valley shopping, but the seasons came and went The things I knew were left behind in reality’s ascent It seemed to happen without notice—it seemed to happen in a day It seemed to happen when I wasn’t looking, but I guess it’s here to stay I’m left with only memories, but I’m not sure that they’re real It’s really hard to come across with exactly how I feel But I’m a 20th century ghost—just a shade of an echo of a memory Yes, I’m a 20th century ghost—the zeitgeist I know just keep on haunting me I walk around the town and see the world on another plane The rate that time is traveling in is driving me insane Despite me not belonging here, there’s not much I can do But see things with a distant gaze, and a 20th century view Now I look for things that I once knew, but it seems to be in vain The places that I’d like to go, they’re only in my brain Should I revel in absurdity, or disassociate? It all feels very fictional, and I guess that it’s too late I frequent Uncanny Valley, for there’s nowhere else to go I’m sitting back with Button Eyes, so I guess I’ll watch the show It seemed to happen without notice—it seemed to happen in a day It seemed to happen when I wasn’t looking, but I guess it’s here to stay I’m left with only memories, but I’m not sure that they’re real It’s really hard to come across with exactly how I feel But I’m a 20th century ghost—just a shade of an echo of a memory Yes, I’m a 20th century ghost—the flux is the crux in our society I walk around the town and see the world on another plane The rate that time is traveling in is driving me insane Despite me not belonging here, there’s not much I can do But see things with a distant gaze, and a 20th century view

about

Petunia-Liebling MacPumpkin is back with a brilliant album that expands upon the framework of her 2012 debut. The surreal, delicately melancholy vibe of "Fish Drive Edsels" remains wonderfully intact even as Petunia branches into new songwriting territory on tracks like 'The Monosaccharide Inducer' (with some searing guitar licks by Norwood Grimes), 'Bermuda Triangle', and 'Waltzing with Charley'—a lovely ballad in slow waltz time; its inherent Western swing flavor is accentuated by slide guitar and lap steel, and Petunia's vocal phrasing is as immaculate as Patsy Cline at her best.

Lyrically the album conveys a wistful message, a longing for the vanished world of the late 20th century with which many listeners will surely identify.

Whether you're a fan or a newcomer, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of "I Left My Heart in Uncanny Valley". (There are two bonus tracks, including a version of 'Toot, Toot, Tootsie!' that makes the song sound like it was written expressly for Petunia to sing.)
